Kanchipuram sarees are woven on handlooms using pure silk threads along with real zari. Bandhani silk saree on the other hand requires the woven fabric to be tied and dyed in different colours. The process of tie-dye is carried out by tying tiny knots throughout the saree. After the saree is dried, these thread lines reveal the base colour, which is mostly white, over a contrasting dark hue.

Colours

The silk bandhani colours are known to be vibrant and cheerful. Pinks, reds, green, yellow, purple and many such such colours are used in the tie and dye process. The base colour is usually white and hence, the dyed colours give a contrasting effect to the subtlety of white undertones.
